The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that contributes to peace and development worldwide by advocating for recognition of volunteers. The UNV programme works with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming and mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volunteers, including experienced UNV volunteers, throughout the world.

UNV Programme in Kosovo was established in 1999. The main role of the UNV programme in Kosovo is to mobilize UN Volunteers from within and outside of Kosovo and promote and advocate the concept of volunteerism as a major form of civic engagement. UNV provides strategic advice on the role and contribution of volunteerism and options for civic engagement in development programmes which aim to improve public inclusion and participation in social, economic and political development and support the growth of volunteerism within communities as a form of mutual self-help.

Currently, UNV Kosovo is working to enhance civil society participation, namely for youth and vulnerable groups; raise awareness on local community issues and sustainable human development from the perspectives of Millennium Development Goals (Poverty, Gender and Environment).  UNV Kosovo takes part in UNKT joint programme initiatives and contributes to UNKT development support for Kosovo.

How to become a UN Volunteer?

They are professionals in respective areas of specialties who agree to offer their skills, knowledge and experience as volunteers to contribute to community development efforts and support sustainable human development and peace processes.
