As the number of COVID-19 cases has experienced a multifold increase since June 2020, a team of experts from the WHO EURO Regional Office organized a mission in Kosovo from 10th until 17th of July 2020 to assess the situation and offer support. The team consisted of Dr. Ardita Tahirukaj, Dr. Paula Vasconcelos, Technical Officers from the WHO Regional Office for Europe, Health Emergencies Programme and Ms. Anja Borojevic, a WHO Consultant.
During this mission, jointly with WHO Pristina staff, the experts have met with a range of health officials and professionals to identify the main challenges and bottlenecks faced by health professionals in managing the COVID outbreak. Meetings were organized with health advisor of PM, Minister of Health, General Secretary of MoH, Directors and other representatives of MoH, Institute of Public Health, University Hospital and Clinical Service of Kosovo, UN agencies and more. Current health facilities treating COVID patients at the central and regional level were also visited to see firsthand how the process of receiving and treating patients is being managed.
The findings and recommendations of this mission have been communicated to the Ministry of Health and other concerned parties on the end of this mission in the hope that proposed measures will take effect in order to improve the current situation.
WHO will continue to work closely with health stakeholders in offering technical support and advice towards the implementation of such measures and generally in managing the current outbreak.
