The promotion of mental health, prevention and treatment of mental disorders are fundamental to safeguarding and enhancing the quality of life, well-being and productivity of individuals, families, workers and communities, thus increasing the strength and resilience of society. World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th) is marked each year to draw attention to the large and avertable burden of self-harm and suicide. This year the chosen theme for World Mental Health Day (October 10th) is suicide prevention. This provides a unique opportunity to link these two events via a month-long campaign between 10th September to 10th October.
So, on 10th of October you can help with your “40 seconds of action” to help us on:
• Improve awareness of the significance of suicide as a global public health problem;
• Improve knowledge of what can be done to prevent suicide;
• Reduce the stigma associated with suicide; and
• Let people suffering know that they are not alone.
