Inaugural event: Sustainable Development Goals Champion
United Nations Kosovo Team (UNKT) aiming to further and promote Sustainable Goals, during inauguration event, announced Sportswoman, Mountain Climber, Ms. Uta Ibrahimi a Sustainable Development Goals Champion. Uta is a role model and social influencer, to whom the youth of Kosovo look upon. Based on the letter of intent signed today, she will continue to promote SDGs on the pro-bono basis in the next two years.
Event was organised today Monday, 18 March 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 hours at the UN Common Premises, in Zagreb str. 58, Pristina (close to Ministry of Health). Present at the event were: UN Development Coordinator Ms. Ulrika Richardson, Donor Coordinator for Assembly of Kosovo Ms. Shqipe Krasniqi and National Coordinator for Reforms Mr. Besnik Tahiri (SDG portfolio carrier), all main UN heads of agencies, partners, journalists, civil sector and others.
The UN Development Coordinator, Ms. Ulrika Richardson stated that, sustainable development concerns us all. Kosovo is now part of the “global village of commitments”, but it requires a whole of society approach. As UN DC and on behalf of UN family in Kosovo, we are so happy that Uta has taken on yet another challenge – to make the SDGs everyone’s business in Kosovo.
Reform Coordinator with Kosovo institution, Mr. Besnik Tahiri stated the importance that Kosovo institutions give to SDGs and to young activists and entrepreneurs, emphasising that SDGs are an obligation of the institutions as well as of the society. Besnik wished Uta the best of times in the next endeavour with National Geographic team in Mt. Lhotse south face:” Come Back to us safe and sound, as we have a lot to do for our Kosovo and promotion of sustainable development” he added.
The Donor Coordinator for Assembly of Kosovo Ms. Shqipe Krasniqi emphasised EU integration priorities are fully aligned with SDGs. These two agendas complement well each other, as well that our job is to better communicate them to general population. She thanked Uta for assisting with the promotion.
Ms. Uta Ibrahimi after the signing of the Letter of intent, expressed her readiness to promote SDGs and all the positive values of Kosovo. “I have chosen to promote SDG 5 Gender Equality and SDG 13 Climate Action, as I most passionate about these two out of 17” she said, ad added “Word of the wise says that there is no other more important competition is the one you have with yourself. As a mountaineer I am aware of that. The Mountain sometimes looks like it has the upper-hand, but in the end will be conquered, it depends on the will. – I say this from my experience. So please never stop believing and working towards your goals.”
During her future expedition she will proudly wear and embroilment of SDGs on the climbing gear and will continue to send messages of peace, empowerment of women and youth, of environmental protection and development. Next expedition for Uta is one with National geographic, and the whole documentary will be filmed.
