Journalism Poverty Prize Awards 2016
United Nations Kosovo Team (UNKT) and the Association of Kosovo Journalists (AJK) organized the Award Ceremony for the Journalism Poverty Prize 2016. This event was organized in marking of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
This is the 11th year of the traditional award of the best stories prepared by the professional journalists in Kosovo during the year and within different categories. The event was made possible thanks to the contributions of the Agencies of the UN Kosovo Team: FAO, IOM, UNDP, UNFPA, UNHCR,UNICEF, UNOPS, UNV, UN Women and WHO.
The ceremony started with the compilation video celebrating 10+ years of collaboration of the UNKT with the media houses on the Journalism Poverty Prize.

This event took place on Monday, 17th October at the recently inaugurated Public Library “Hivzi Sulejmani” in Dardania, Pristina.
The jury was comprised of the following members: Violeta Hyseni-Kelmendi, Violeta Oroshi, Dijana Simijonović, Besa Maliqi and Dafina Zuna. Officers from the AJK and the Office of the UN Development Coordinator observed the work of the jury.
Prize for the effort went to Maja Fićović for the story: “Five-member family Kelmendi, left to themselves”, published and broadcasted on Radio Free Europe on 21 of July 2016. LINK
Best story from the online media went to Besnik Boletini & Leonida Molliqaj for the story: “Earning their Daily Bread” , published in the online Preportr portal on 26 November 2016.
Besnik Boletini also won a special prize for the photos and multimedia package for the same article.
Best text and press story went to Nexhat Tovërlani for the story: “Bottles and tin-cans instead of books”, published on 9 March 2016 in Koha Ditore daily press. LINK
2nd Best text and press story went to Donika Lamaxhema for the story: “Childhood on the Wheelbarrow in the Green Market”, published on KlanKosova online portal on 9 April 2016. LINK
Prize for Best video story went to Ardiana Thaçi for the story: “Poverty first hits girls, who drop out of school”, published originally on KTV 11 December 2015, with the follow up on 19 December 2015 and another on 15 December 2016. LINK1, LINK2 (begins at 16:57, ends 19:37), LINK 3
2nd Best video story went to Durim Abdullahu for the TV story: “The Unofficial Ghetto”, published on 3rd of March 2016 on KTV. LINK
